On Your Fourth of July

On Your Fourth of July

This is the day
To celebrate the nation’s birthday
To watch the flag fly
And soar in a bursting sky

Remembering how long ago
Some fathers we did not know
Committed this land to
Freedom for me and you

On this fourth of July
While the fireworks burst in the sky
Remember those the sign that paper so long ago
And let your pride show

With red, white, and blue
Still ring true
A story of many fights
To regain our rights

Watch the fireworks today
Remembering what each one has to say
For the freedoms we enjoy
And the nation’s joy
Did not come without a price
Or many sacrifice

My Family

My Family

Our families may not look the same
But a family is a family by the name
Whether your family is made of one or two
Three, four, five, six…a family is always true

My family is one dad
He is always glad
I am by his side
to give me a piggyback ride

My family may not look like you
But my family is true
Love
Is what a family is made of

My mom and I
Are always nearby
She makes me grin
When she calls me her little pumpkin

My family may not look like you
But my family is true
Love
Is what a family is made of

Two moms love me
There care runs deeply
We always have a lot of fun
When we play in the sun

My family may not look like you
But my family is true
Love
Is what a family is made of

Two dads live in my home
I never feel alone
They always find a way
To spend time with me everyday

My family may not look like you
But my family is true
Love
Is what a family is made of

I have two places I call homestead
Now that they have unwed
It is ok though
Their love for me will always grow

My family may not look like you
But my family is true
Love
Is what a family is made of

I was born in my parent’s heart
Even if someone else gave me my start
With every date
I know my family is great

My family may not look like you
But my family is true
Love
Is what a family is made of

Families come in all shapes and scope
We all hold on to the hope
When families will be recognized for love
Because that is what families are made of

The artist

The artist

With a steady hand
He takes his imagination to the pad
He wants to be the best in the land
This young and talented lad

With a focused mind
And a tongue slightly escaping
His art is inclined
To be blinding

As mom and dad
Watch the curious hand
That strokes the pad
They wonder if this picture was preplanned

Take a moment to wait
And then you will be see the prize
With a drawing that is great
His talent will be a surprise

As he sits down to write
One can only focus on
That something is not right
A shoe is gone

He can not be bothered with this detail
For he has a masterpiece to make
So without fail
He will make a beautiful keepsake

My Summer

My Summer

It is time to throw the books aside
Let’s get ready for a wild ride

One last teacher good-bye
I will try not to cry
As I turn my books in
Goosebumps crawl on my skin

I sit in my seat looking at the clock
Tick tock tick tock
The seconds go bye too slow
Summer is close, it must know

When the bell does ring
I want to sing
Summertime has begun
It is now time for all the fun

Long nights, friends all around
The town will become our playground
All the time we will share
During summertime we will have not one care

But wait just one minute
At the last moment of school, teacher says I need more credit
How can this be
I was ready for some summertime boogie

Now they say
There is no other way
My summertime will not be fun
Summer school has now begun

Ack!
